snow flake adjectives

An Adjective is a word that describes a noun. Today our class made a web about words that describe the noun snowflake.

First our class got into groups to brainstorm, in a web, adjectives describing a snowflake.

Next, we created snowflakes and used our adjectives to frame our creation!

Do you know any fun adjectives that describe snowflakes?

Turkey Trot Day, November 23, 2011

Turkey Trot Day, November 23, 2011
This poem has two patterns that were identified by Mrs. Walters Super Smart Second Graders. The patterns for this Thanksgiving poem  are:

1. Each Stanza has an AB syllable pattern . The syllable pattern is 7, 6, 7,6.

2.In this poem all of the lines with 6 syllables have a rhyming word at the end.

Can you see any other patterns?

We are making Thanksgiving cards to our families. We are making five sentences to our families.

Good Morning Pilgrims!

Good morning Pilgrims! Today our class will be working on counting how many syllables are in each line of our poetry selection, running in our school's Turkey Trot, reading about the first Pilgrims' Thanksgiving and completing our graphic organizers that has helped us collect and organize new informational text about the first Thanksgiving.

On top of this little lady's head is a Pilgrim hat with her name on it. Several students have been working on these hats during lunch. They will be used at Thanksgiving dinner to let guests know where they are to sit. What special things does your family put around the table for Thanksgiving?

The students wrote a paragraph about why they think it is important to be free.
This is a picture of me.

In these pictures we are doing Thanksgiving writing to our Family. We are working hard at making sentences abourt our family. What are you thankful for?

Informational Text

Reading informational text can be tricky. We have to look for words we know and try to find the main idea of paragraphs. Don't get caught not working!
Good Morning!!
This is what our class looks like in the morning. We come in and eat our breakfast while we do our morning bell work. Today we are reviewing Pilgrims. Some things we learned about Pilgrims are:
  • The women gather for the family.
  • The kids have jobs like gathering nuts and berries, weaving and reading.
  • The men hunt animals.
  • When it is cold the men put on long shirts made of linen.
  • The Pilgrims share with others.
  • The Pilgrims were brave when the storms came.
  • When hunting, the men hide quietly from the animals. Then they attack.
  • The Pilgrims built houses of straw.
  • The Pilgrims NEVER GIVE UP!!
  • The Pilgrims used boats to travel.
